Margaret Garcia studies the conditions that alter the quality of water infrastructure systems through design analysis and human interference under changing conditions.

Garcia leads an NSF CAREER project on regional supply resilience in the Western US, is a member of the International Hydrological Society’s Drought in the Anthropocene Working Group and serves on the editorial board for the ASCE Journal of Infrastructure Systems.

Garcia has itemized two critical needs in water resources infrastructure:

  1. Reduce the maintenance and repair backlog to ensure infrastructure perform to their design standard and
  2. Adapt flood control and water supply systems to meet changing climatic conditions and evolving demands.

Garcia is an assistant professor in Sustainable and Hydrosystems Engineering.
