We’ve been busy.

For more than a decade, a global brand and one of the largest universities in the United States worked together on a special recipe to remove barriers and increase access to college degrees.

Starbucks and Arizona State University created a program to help eligible coffeehouse employees earn their first bachelor’s degree, choosing from more than 180 online degree programs, with 100% upfront tuition coverage, and no strings attached at graduation.

The result? Nearly 20,000
graduation tassels so far, and
countless lives changed.

And a new economic impact study shows just how much things can change...

The report from the XXXXX estimates:

Nearly $500,000

in added lifetime economic benefit for each graduate of the program.

Nearly $9 billion

in added lifetime economic benefits across all graduates.

add here the impact on community in spillover benefits

Just 34%

percent of the program’s graduates said they would have completed a college degree without the program.

In addition, nearly half of the graduates cite the program as a reason they joined Starbucks. More than 20% of coffeehouse leadership roles are filled by program members and graduates.

And Starbucks saves $7.3 million annually in retention and promotion costs because of the program, the Starbucks College Achievement Plan.

The real question:

Why don’t more companies and universities develop similar programs?

We couldn’t have done this with just any company. We had to do this with a company that values the person, that wants its individual people to be successful. Starbucks shares our belief in the power of education and our driving desire for individuals to be successful.
