The Arizona State University Police Department has signed the 30x30 Pledge, committing to increasing the number of women in recruitment classes to 30 percent by 2030.

“The ASU Police Department believes in inclusivity, and will be a driving force for positive change in the field of public safety,” ASU Police Chief Michael Thompson said. “Currently, women make up just 12 percent of the police force, and only 3 percent of police leadership nationwide. We, along with agencies across Arizona and the PAC-12, are determined to improve this percentage and make our industry more welcoming and inclusive to everyone.”

The 30x30 Initiative is a coalition of police leaders, researchers, and professional organizations who have joined together to advance the representation and experience of women in policing agencies across the United States, and to ensure police policies and culture intentionally support the success of qualified women officers throughout their careers.

“Our department should be an echo of our community,” Chief Thompson said. “By committing to this initiative and ensuring more women are brought into the field, we are also increasing the number of minorities in our department, allowing us to more accurately reflect the community we serve.”
