MLK March on West educates students, inspires them to fight for freedom
What: Elementary and middle school students are marching for freedom and equality, echoing the spirit of the historic March on Washington. They will hear a reenactment of the powerful “I Have a Dream” speech by civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. The rendition of “I Have a Dream” will be performed by ASU faculty member Charles St. Clair. It’s an opportunity that introduces students to civil rights history and transforms them in an awe-inspiring way.
This in-person event will also include educational presentations about the history of the civil rights movement, in addition to a musical program. MLK March on West, which celebrates the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the history-changing 1963 March on Washington, has been a tradition at ASU's West campus since 1991.
