ASUPD Awarded ‘Ghost’ Vehicle Through GOHS Grant

November 9, 2022

The Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety has awarded the Arizona State University Police Department a “ghost” vehicle to help support DUI and aggressive driver enforcement on ASU campuses.

The vehicle earns its “ghost” moniker due to its white color and accompanying white reflective graphics. The bright color of the vehicle, as well as the numerous emergency lights on board, are intended to make the vehicle easily identifiable to anyone in need.

“We are grateful to GOHS for their continued support of our campus safety initiatives” ASU Police Chief Michael Thompson said.

The Ford Explorer Interceptor is valued at approximately $65,000. Funding for this grant was provided through Prop 207.

The “ghost” vehicle will be immediately added to the fleet on ASU’s Tempe campus, with plans for additional units to be sent to the Downtown Phoenix, Polytechnic and West campuses at a later time.
