    Kamil Kaloush is an expert in pavement materials design, thermal properties, advanced laboratory testing, field performance evaluation, and pavement management systems.

    His research focuses on the urban heat island phenomenon which suggests that urbanized environments experience higher temperatures due to infrastructure absorbing the sun's heat.

    Kaloush is a professor for the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, Urban Climate Research Center and the School for the Future of Innovation in Society. He is the chairman of the International Road Federation. 

    He has received the Greater Phoenix Area E-Week Outstanding Engineering Educator award; Rubber Pavements Association Outstanding Research Award and the IRF Global Awards.

    I think highways in the Valley around the city of Phoenix have done everything right. Whether it is an unintended consequence of the technology, placing down the rubberized asphalt on our highways in the Phoenix area is a wonderful thing and one of the things that ADOT should be commended on.
