Candace Lewis
Candace Lewis is a neuroscientist studying how life experiences and psychedelic medicines change our biology and epigenome, and how those changes could lead to better mental health treatments.
Her research explores how childhood experiences shape the brain and how psychedelic medicines, including psilocybin, MDMA, LSD, and ketamine, may produce lasting biological changes. She also develops tools to predict who will benefit most from these emerging treatments.
Lewis is an assistant professor in the School of Life Sciences and Department of Psychology at Arizona State University. She holds a PhD in behavioral neuroscience and is a licensed mental health counselor.
She directs ASU's Brain, Epigenetics, and Altered states Research Lab (BEAR) and leads a $4 million federally funded project to advance personalized psychedelic medicine. Her research is also supported by a prestigious NIH Director's New Innovator Award.
