The Arizona State University Police Department has made an arrest connected to the on-campus sexual assault from October 17, 2021.

ASUPD detectives were able to collect a DNA sample from the crime scene, and submit it to the Arizona Department of Public Safety Crime Lab. This DNA matched a sample on file for Eric Bell, and officers were able to determine his whereabouts soon after.

“Tireless work from ASUPD detectives uncovered crucial evidence that allowed us to determine the suspect’s identity,” ASU Police Chief Michael Thompson said. “It took tremendous police work from our ASUPD officers and detectives working this case, as well as support from our partnering agencies, to make the swift nature of this arrest possible.

Bell was apprehended at 8:00 a.m. Friday morning by the Tempe Police Department’s Apprehension Squad, a specialized unit associated with the U.S. Marshals Service.

Bell was booked on charges of sexual assault and kidnapping, among others.
