Sarah Florini studies the intersection of race and technology.

Her research focuses on critical studies of social media — especially TikTok and Twitter — as well as on podcasting, Black digital culture, online discourse and digital technology and ethics.

Florini is an associate professor of film and media studies in ASU's Department of English and an affiliate of the Lincoln Center for Applied Ethics.

Her work has appeared in the journals New Media and Society, Critical Studies in Media Communication, and Television and New Media. She's also the author of the book “Beyond Hashtags: Racial Politics and Black Digital Networks.”
