Alexander Halavais is an expert in social media, activism and social movements in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Additionally, he utilizes his expertise in online communities as a director of the master's program in social technologies.
Professor Halavais’ research focuses on the ways in which platforms, algorithms, and data structures shape and change social interaction.
He has published more than 50 articles and book chapters on how social media relate to social change, as well as a book introducing the social role of search engines.
