Mikhail Chester
Mikhail Chester is a professor in Fulton Engineering’s School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment (SSEBE) and director of the Metis Center for Infrastructure and Sustainable Engineering.
Chester also leads SSEBE’s Resilient Infrastructure Laboratory.
He is also co-lead of the Urban Resilience to Extremes Sustainability Research Network (UREx SRN) comprised of 19 institutions and 250 researchers across the Americas, focused on developing innovative infrastructure solutions for extreme events.
Chester’s research is focused on preparing infrastructure for the challenges of the coming century, including climate adaptation, disruptive technologies, innovative financing, complexity leadership, and cybersecurity.
Often at the national level, there are engineering societies that will make recommendations that make their way into city codes, and those say that when you design a stormwater pipe, it needs to be able to accommodate a 10-year-event, or something like that.
