Terry Shoemaker is a scholar of religion with interest in cultural studies and community sports.
Shoemarker is a lecturer in the School of Historical Philosophical and Religious Studies and is particularly knowledgeable in the functions of religious communities, the empowerment engendered through religious practice, interfaith movements, and American evangelicalism and fundamentalism. He has published studies regarding the intersection of religion with nationalism, disabilities, popular culture, sports, public life, and deconversion. Shoemaker also has a deep interest in the rehabilitative role of religion in the contemporary United States.
