The Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety has awarded the Arizona State University Police Department $81,337 in grant money to help reduce traffic-related issues in and around the ASU Tempe, West, Downtown Phoenix and Polytechnic campuses.

 The ASU Police Department will receive three separate grants (totaling $81,337) from the GOHS for the 2022 fiscal year, including:

• A $37,974 DUI enforcement grant will apply to costs associated with DUI task force deployments, as well as the purchase of new equipment for DUI patrols.
• A $24,746 speed enforcement grant will be dedicated to speed enforcement, and for the purchase of two LIDAR (Light Detecting and Ranging) speed measurement devices.
• A $18,617 grant will be applied to pedestrian and bicycle enforcement to help combat an increase in pedestrian-related deaths across the country by targeting pedestrian and bicycle-related offenses.

 These GOHS grants allow the ASU Police Department to create a safer environment across our four Phoenix metropolitan campuses, assisting in the Department’s DUI prevention efforts and stance against underage alcohol consumption. Crimes which too often result in the tragic loss of life, and carry additional financial and criminal consequences.
