Sarah H. Lisanby, MD, is Founding Dean of the ASU John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering, a next-generation medical school at the intersection of medicine, engineering and AI.
A psychiatrist and clinical translational scientist, her research focuses on developing novel brain stimulation technologies for depression and related disorders. She is internationally known for pioneering magnetic seizure therapy, and work that led to FDA approval of multiple neuromodulation therapies. Before ASU, Dr. Lisanby held senior leadership roles at the NIH, where she oversaw a $400 million mental health research portfolio and helped lead the NIH BRAIN Initiative to advance innovative devices and AI to transform brain health. She previously chaired psychiatry at Duke and founded the Neuromodulation Divisions at Columbia, Duke, and NIMH. Her rare blend of clinical insight, engineering innovation and federal research leadership makes her a leading voice on the future of brain health.
