Alexander Green is using material science to explore self-assembling nanomaterials within biological systems by creating new biological parts such as sensors or actuators. His work also spans into developing antimicrobial drug resistance for highly resistant bacteria. His lab is also developing cheaper portable diagnostic tests for Zika virus in low income areas.

Green is an assistant professor in the Biodesign Center for Molecular Design and Biometrics and School of Molecular Sciences.

Green is an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow in Computational & Evolutionary Molecular Biology (2017) and the recipient of an NIH New Innovator Award (2017), a DARPA Young Faculty Award (2017), an Arizona Biomedical Research Commission New Investigator Award (2017), and a DARPA YFA Director's Fellowship (2019).
